HARRISBURG, September 29, 2009 - - State Sen. Jim Ferlo (D-Pittsburgh), Harrison Township Commissioners and the Natrona Comes Together Association (NCTA) will join together for the Natrona Community Park and Playground Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, October 2 from 4-7 p.m. The event will take place at 10 River Avenue, Natrona.
“This event is a year in the making,” Ferlo said. “I am pleased to see the completion of the park and playground. It will be a safe, positive place for children and residents of Natrona and Harrison Township to play and be entertained. This recreation amenity will be key to improving the quality of life for all citizens of this community and will be the equivalent of a local town square.”
Last year, Ferlo, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, Harrison Township officials and NCTA broke ground on the park and playground. Ferlo was instrumental in securing $364,000 in state dollars to assist with the building of the recreational facility.
The park and playground feature a band shelter, playground, two basketball courts and an art walk, which will allow for the display of artwork created by local children and visiting artists.
“This completed park and playground is a symbol of communities working together in a positive way,” Ferlo said. “It is a symbol of the dedication and hard work that each citizen puts into their community. I know that through recreational, cultural and educational activities, this park and playground will help strengthen the bonds of the community.”
The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will feature children’s art activities, the “Class Clown” performer, and kid’s karaoke. Refreshments will be served and there will be a bake sale of which the proceeds will benefit the NCTA.
